Stirling-PDF: WeasyPrint SSRF and Local File Read Vulnerability

Short explanation

Prior to version 3.0.0 of Stirling-PDF, the POST /api/v1/ai/tools/create-pdf-from-html-agent endpoint passes HTML input to WeasyPrint without sanitization. This leads to server-side request forgery (SSRF) and local file read vulnerabilities.

Why does it matter?

Through the unauthenticated endpoint, attackers can issue requests to internal networks or cloud metadata services, or embed sensitive local files into generated PDFs.

What should be done?

  • Update Stirling-PDF to version 3.0.0 or later
  • Follow vendor advisories if updating is not immediately possible
  • Review authentication configurations

Show the technical text from the sources

Stirling-PDF is a locally hosted web application that facilitates various operations on PDF files. Prior to 3.0.0, POST /api/v1/ai/tools/create-pdf-from-html-agent accepts attacker-controlled htmlContent and passes it to WeasyPrint without CustomHtmlSanitizer, unlike the sanitized /api/v1/convert/html/pdf control path. HTTP and HTTPS resource references can make server-side requests to internal or cloud-metadata destinations, while file references can embed local content readable by the Stirling-PDF process into the generated PDF. The endpoint is reachable without credentials when security.enableLogin is false, and the flaw is distinct from earlier Stirling-PDF WeasyPrint vulnerabilities in older conversion paths. This issue is fixed in version 3.0.0.

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
