Short explanation

A vulnerability exists in the joserfc library where joserfc.jwe.decrypt_json() accepts an unbounded JWE General JSON Serialization recipients array, leading to CPU exhaustion (DoS).

Why does it matter?

An unauthenticated attacker can submit JWEs to trigger repeated private-key decryption operations in a single request, exhausting service CPU resources.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisory guidance
  • Update the affected library
  • Review released patch information
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

joserfc kütüphanesinin 1.7.5 öncesi sürümleri, recipients dizisinde sınır olmaksızın decrypt_cek() çağrısı yapar.

Saldırganlar tek bir istekte özel anahtar şifre çözme işlemlerini tekrarlayarak servis CPU kaynaklarını tüketebilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

joserfc is a Python library that provides an implementation of several JSON Object Signing and Encryption (JOSE) standards. Prior to 1.7.5, joserfc.jwe.decrypt_json() accepts a JWE General JSON Serialization recipients array without a count limit and calls decrypt_cek() for every entry. An unauthenticated attacker who can submit a JWE to an endpoint using an RSA key-management algorithm can choose the number of private-key decryption operations performed by one request. The verify_all_recipients option does not reduce this work because the affected loop processes every recipient before consulting that setting, allowing repeated requests to exhaust service CPU without affecting confidentiality or integrity. This issue is fixed in version 1.7.5.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
