Short explanation
CVE-2026-116180 is a denial of service vulnerability affecting vLLM from version 0.8.5 before 0.31.0. The issue arises because LogprobsTensors.empty_cpu() allocates an uninitialized int32 tensor and the V1 model runner leaves certain prompt positions unwritten, causing EngineCore to crash upon specific inputs.
This vulnerability can disrupt shared vLLM engine deployments by crashing the core engine and dropping all co-tenant requests. Conflicting CVSS base metrics are present across different data sources.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisory guidelines
- Update affected vLLM installations
- Monitor official sources for patch status updates

Chain of evidence and sources
Show the technical text from the sources
vLLM from 0.8.5 before 0.31.0 has a denial of service flaw. LogprobsTensors.empty_cpu() in vllm/v1/outputs.py allocates an uninitialized int32 tensor, and the V1 model runner leaves prompt positions reported as computed by a KV connector unwritten. A client sharing the engine can send prompt_logprobs (or echo with logprobs) against a connector-cached prefix, making tokenizer decode raise OverflowError, which crashes EngineCore and drops all co-tenant requests.
