Short explanation

CVE-2026-115424 is a vulnerability in the OpenShift client oc caused by a failure to validate symbolic and hard link targets when extracting container image layers. An attacker supplying a malicious image can write content outside the destination directory with the privileges of the user running the command. The patch status is unknown.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to write files to locations outside the intended extraction directory. It can lead to compromised file integrity under the privileges of the user executing the command.

What should be done?

  • Follow official vendor advisories
  • Avoid extracting unknown or untrusted container images
  • Apply updates when released by the vendor

Show the technical text from the sources

A flaw was found in the OpenShift client oc. When extracting container image layers with oc image extract, the application fails to properly sanitize symbolic and hard link targets pointing to absolute paths or to sibling directories of the extraction destination. An attacker who supplies a malicious container image can exploit this vulnerability by embedding links, and a chained file entry, that reference locations outside the intended extraction directory. This allows the attacker to write attacker-controlled content to arbitrary locations on the host filesystem with the privileges of the user running the command, potentially leading to file modification outside the destination directory.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
