Client-Side Encryption Bypass Vulnerability in MongoDB C# Driver

Short explanation

A client-side encryption schema construction component in the MongoDB C# Driver interprets field identifiers as pattern expressions, causing encryption protection to silently fail or apply too broadly.

Why does it matter?

Data intended to be encrypted can be stored in cleartext and observed without encryption keys.

What should be done?

Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

A client-side encryption schema construction component in the MongoDB C# Driver places caller-supplied field identifiers into a position that is interpreted as a pattern expression, without normalizing or validating them. As a result, an application that designates certain fields for client-side field-level encryption may have the protection silently fail to apply, so data intended to be encrypted is stored and returned in cleartext; conversely, the rule may apply more broadly than intended. No user action is required to cause the condition, and any party with ordinary read access to the stored data — without possession of the encryption keys — can observe the unprotected values.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
