Short explanation

A vulnerability in Authlib causes the OpenID implicit grant component to check the raw client-controlled request scope instead of filtered allowed scopes [S0]. This allows an unauthorized client to obtain a signed ID token [S0].

Why does it matter?

Allowing unauthorized clients to receive signed tokens containing user subjects and profile claims can lead to privacy breaches [S0].

What should be done?

  • Update the Authlib library [S0]
  • Follow the vendor advisory for updates [S0]
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Authlib sürüm 1.9.0 öncesinde, OpenID implicit grant ham kapsamları denetler [S0].

Yetkilendirme kodu akışı ve tüm istemcilere openid izni veren dağıtımlar etkilenmemektedir [S0].

Show the technical text from the sources

Authlib is a Python library which builds OAuth and OpenID Connect servers. Prior to 1.9.0, OpenIDImplicitGrant.validate_authorization_request() checks the client-controlled raw request.payload.scope for openid after the parent grant has filtered allowed scopes into request.scope. A registered client permitted an ID token response type but not the openid scope can add openid to the request, obtain user consent, and receive a signed ID token containing the user's subject and allowed profile claims. Authorization code flow and deployments that allow openid for every client permitted an ID token response are not affected. In authlib/oidc/core/grants/implicit.py, OpenIDImplicitGrant.validate_authorization_request() checks request.payload.scope instead of the filtered request.scope. This issue is fixed in version 1.9.0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
