Short explanation
The SpatialReference component in Django versions 6.1 before 6.1.3, 6.0 before 6.0.10, and 5.2 before 5.2.19 fails to restrict GDAL's file and network access when parsing string inputs. This flaw allows attackers to trigger server-side requests or local file reads using crafted spatial reference strings.
This vulnerability allows attackers to initiate unauthorized outbound network requests and read local files, potentially resulting in information disclosure.
What should be done?
- Upgrade Django to version 6.1.3, 6.0.10, 5.2.19, or later
- Follow the vendor security advisories
- Review official patch references and commit changes
Chain of evidence and sources
Django 6.1 < 6.1.3, 6.0 < 6.0.10 ve 5.2 < 5.2.19 sürümleri SpatialReference girdileri üzerinden sunucu tarafında istek sahteciliğine karşı savunmasızdır.
Sorun, django.contrib.gis.gdal.SpatialReference ve ilgili transform yöntemleri ile srs/srid ayarlayıcılarının GDAL dosya ve ağ erişimini kısıtlamamasından kaynaklanmaktadır.
Show the technical text from the sources
An issue was discovered in Django 6.1 before 6.1.3, 6.0 before 6.0.10, and 5.2 before 5.2.19. `django.contrib.gis.gdal.SpatialReference` (and related `transform()` methods and `srs`/`srid` setters) do not restrict GDAL’s file and network access when parsing string input, which allows attackers to trigger server-side requests or local file reads via crafted spatial reference strings. Earlier, unsupported Django series (such as 5.1.x, 5.0.x, and 4.2.x) were not evaluated and may also be affected. Django would like to thank Adraca for reporting this issue.
