CVE-2026-114101: Coraza Multipart Filename Charset Handling FILES Rule Bypass

Short explanation

In Coraza before 3.8.1, multipart upload filenames are extracted using Go's mime.ParseMediaType, which silently ignores RFC 5987 filename* parameters with charsets other than utf-8 or us-ascii. Unauthenticated attackers can send decoy filenames to bypass FILES-based rules.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows dangerous file uploads to bypass inspection rules and reach backend servers that honor filename*, potentially compromising integrity.

What should be done?

  • Upgrade Coraza to version 3.8.1 or later
  • Follow vendor advisory guidance if a direct fix is pending
  • Monitor multipart upload requests and filename parameters

Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

Coraza before 3.8.1 extracts multipart upload filenames with Go's mime.ParseMediaType, which silently ignores RFC 5987 filename* parameters whose charset is not utf-8 or us-ascii. Unauthenticated attackers can send a decoy filename with filename*=iso-8859-1''shell.php, or filename* alone, so FILES-based rules never see the real name, letting dangerous uploads reach backends that honor filename*.
