Short explanation

A vulnerability in ApostropheCMS sanitize-html causes the discard region to end early when using nonDefault nonTextTags configurations, allowing hidden content to render.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows content intended to remain inert to survive sanitization and render in browsers, potentially leading to confidentiality or integrity impacts.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories to update software components
  • Upgrade sanitize-html to version 2.18.0 or later
  • Review nonTextTags configuration settings
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

sanitize-html 2.18.0 öncesi sürümlerde noscript içeren yapılandırmalar discard bölgesini erken sonlandırabilir.

Sorun htmlparser2 bileşeninin ima edilen üst etiket kapanışını tetiklemesinden kaynaklanmaktadır.

Show the technical text from the sources

ApostropheCMS is an open-source Node.js content management system, and sanitize-html provides a simple HTML sanitizer with a clear API. Prior to sanitize-html 2.18.0, a non-default nonTextTags configuration that includes noscript can end its discard region early when htmlparser2 emits an implied ancestor close inside noscript. Because scripting-enabled browsers treat noscript content as raw text while the parser does not model that mode, content intended to remain inert can survive sanitization and render; the issue does not generalize to every default nonTextTags element. This issue is fixed in sanitize-html 2.18.0.
