Short explanation

Sonatype Nexus Repository 3 fails to check whether a user account is authorized to access a repository before adding it as a member of a group repository [S0, S1]. A signed-in user can add a repository they cannot read and subsequently access its content through the group [S0, S1].

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows authorized users to read repository content they lack direct permissions to access [S0, S1]. The absence of proper authorization checks compromises data confidentiality [S0, S1].

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisory [S0, S1]
  • Apply updates referenced in the release notes [S0]

Show the technical text from the sources

Sonatype Nexus Repository 3 does not check that a user account is authorized to access a repository before the repository is added as a member of a group repository. A user account that has signed in with valid credentials and holds the add or edit privilege on a group repository can add a repository that the account cannot read or browse, and then read the content of that repository through the group. The anonymous user can only do this if an administrator has explicitly granted it that privilege.
