Short explanation

A vulnerability exists in the Pillow library where processing MIC image files can trigger an infinite loop during frame traversal of embedded TIFF structures (S0).

Why does it matter?

Reading a crafted file can lead to indefinite consumption of CPU resources, causing service disruption (S0).

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisory guidelines
  • Update the affected library version
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Pillow kütüphanesinin 7.2.0 ile 13.0.0 sürümleri arasındaki MIC işleme özellikleri sonsuz döngü zafiyetinden etkilenmektedir.

Hazırlanmış bir MIC dosyası okunurken işçi süreç tam CPU kullanımında kalabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

Pillow is a Python imaging library. From 7.2.0 until 13.0.0, Pillow can enter an infinite loop while determining the frame count of a MIC image. MicImageFile inherits TIFF frame traversal, but MicImageFile.tell reports the OLE stream index and its seek() resets TIFF frame state, so an embedded TIFF with at least three IFDs never advances. When an application with olefile installed reads n_frames or saves all frames from a crafted MIC file, the non-advancing traversal can hold a worker at full CPU indefinitely. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
