Short explanation

Netpbm through version 11.16.00 contains a heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability within the rasttopnm Sun rasterfile decoder, potentially leading to memory corruption and crashes.

Why does it matter?

The vulnerability matters because it allows attackers to write controlled bytes past allocated memory buffers, leading to memory corruption and potential system instability.

What should be done?

  • Follow official vendor advisories
  • Exercise caution as the patch status is currently unknown
  • Monitor official source code repositories for updates

Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

Netpbm through 11.16.00 contains a heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the rasttopnm Sun rasterfile run-length decoder pr_load_image in converter/other/rast.c. Attackers can supply a byte-encoded rasterfile with tiny dimensions and a long run-length body to write controlled bytes past md_image, causing memory corruption and crashes.

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
