Short explanation

IoTSharp through version 3.6.1 contains an insecure direct object reference vulnerability that allows authenticated users to read other tenants' data via Customers and Devices APIs.

Why does it matter?

This flaw allows unauthorized users to access sensitive customer contact details, device inventories, and telemetry data belonging to other tenants, thereby compromising data confidentiality in multi-tenant architectures.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and updates
  • Scope API queries to the caller's tenant
  • Strengthen authorization checks

Show the technical text from the sources

IoTSharp through 3.6.1 contains an insecure direct object reference vulnerability that allows any authenticated user to read other tenants' data because Customers and Devices API handlers do not scope queries to the caller's tenant. Attackers can self-register through the anonymous AccountController.Create endpoint and supply other tenants' GUIDs to read customer contact details, device inventories and device attribute telemetry.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
