Short explanation
PKP Open Journal Systems up to version 3.5.0‑5 contains an insecure direct object reference where crafted requests to editSubscription and updateSubscription with arbitrary subscription IDs allow access to other journals' subscriptions. Attackers can enumerate sequential IDs, view subscriber details, and reassign subscriptions to their own journal, revoking victims' access.
Even privileged managers can read other journals' subscriber data and hijack subscriptions, leading to data leakage and unauthorized service control.
What should be done?
- Monitor vendor advisories and apply any released patch
- Strengthen access controls on subscription identifiers
- Add proper authentication and authorization checks to prevent IDOR
- Randomize or obscure subscription IDs to hinder enumeration
- Regularly review privileged accounts and their permissions
