Short explanation

libmodplug through version 0.8.9.1 contains a heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the CSoundFile::ReadAMS2 function located in src/load_ams.cpp. This flaw allows attackers to read adjacent heap memory and crash any libmodplug consumer via crafted AMS files.

Why does it matter?

Crafted module files can drive the decoder past the input buffer, causing consumer applications to crash and enabling access to adjacent heap memory.

What should be done?

  • Follow official vendor advisories.
  • Check the associated GitHub repository for update information.

Show the technical text from the sources

libmodplug through 0.8.9.1 contains a heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in CSoundFile::ReadAMS2() in src/load_ams.cpp that allows attackers to read adjacent heap memory via crafted AMS files. Attackers can supply an AMS module whose pattern effect bytes keep bit 7 set, driving the decoder past the input buffer and crashing any libmodplug consumer.

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
