Short explanation

Web3.py versions 7.15.0 through 7.16.0 and 8.0.0b2 through 8.0.0 contain a server-side request forgery vulnerability [S0]. The issue arises because _check_ip_blocked() does not unwrap IPv4-mapped IPv6 addresses during CCIP Read URL validation [S0].

Why does it matter?

Malicious contracts can cause clients with CCIP Read enabled to send requests to loopback, private, or link-local services, impacting confidentiality and integrity [S0].

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and apply available updates [S0].
