Short explanation

libsidplayfp through version 3.1.1 contains a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in SidTuneBase::acceptSidTune due to an unchecked data offset. This flaw allows applications to crash when supplied with an unchecked PSID or RSID file.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows a local attacker to crash applications by using a specially crafted music file, compromising service availability.

What should be done?

Show the technical text from the sources

libsidplayfp through 3.1.1 contains a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability that allows attackers to crash applications by supplying a PSID/RSID file with an unchecked data offset. Attackers can set the header data offset beyond the file size, wrapping the length calculation so resolveAddrs() reads up to 64 KiB past the heap buffer.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
