Short explanation
libgxps 0.3.2 and earlier contain a heap out‑of‑bounds read in path_geometry_start_element. An attacker can craft an XPS document with malformed PolyBezierSegment/PolyQuadraticBezierSegment points to read adjacent memory or crash the consumer. No active exploitation is recorded and patch status is unknown.
Potential disclosure of sensitive memory and denial‑of‑service affect applications that rely on libgxps, posing a serious security risk.
What should be done?
- Monitor official GNOME advisories and security bulletins (S0)
- Apply patches as soon as they are released; patch status is currently UNKNOWN (S0)
- Upgrade to a newer libgxps version or use an alternative XPS viewer (S1)
- Restrict opening of untrusted XPS documents (S0)

Show the technical text from the sources
GNOME libgxps through 0.3.2 contains a heap out-of-bounds read in path_geometry_start_element() that allows attackers to read past allocations via crafted PolyBezierSegment or PolyQuadraticBezierSegment Points attributes. Attackers can supply a point count not divisible by three or two in a crafted XPS document to crash consumers like Evince and render adjacent heap memory into output.
