Short explanation

CVE‑2026‑111130 is a heap out-of-bounds read flaw affecting OpenSlide versions 0‑4.0.1. An attacker can craft a MIRAX slide with a malicious Slidedat.ini where CameraImageDivisionsPerSide does not evenly divide the image count, causing the slide_positions array to be read past, crashing the application and corrupting tile geometry. CVSS scores range from 6.1 to 6.9 and exploitation requires local access and user interaction. Patch status is unknown and no active exploitation is reported (not in CISA KEV).

Why does it matter?

The vulnerability can let malicious slide files crash OpenSlide‑based viewers and leak memory contents, potentially causing service disruption in medical imaging environments.

What should be done?

  • Monitor the official OpenSlide advisory and security bulletins (S0).
  • Apply a patch as soon as one is released; patch status is currently UNKNOWN (S0).
  • Validate input files and run the viewer in a sandboxed environment.
  • Run the application with least‑privilege permissions, avoiding root privileges.

Show the technical text from the sources

OpenSlide through 4.0.1 contains a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the MIRAX reader that allows attackers to read past the slide_positions array via crafted Slidedat.ini values. Attackers can supply a MIRAX slide whose CameraImageDivisionsPerSide does not evenly divide the image counts, crashing applications that open it and corrupting tile geometry.
