Short explanation
catdoc through 0.95 contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the MULRK record handler of the xls2csv component. This flaw can lead to the disclosure of adjacent process memory or cause the process to crash via a crafted .xls workbook or BIFF stream.
This vulnerability allows attackers to leak sensitive memory data as CSV cells or trigger service disruption by crashing local processes.
What should be done?
- Follow official vendor advisories
- Check for update information

Chain of evidence and sources

Show the technical text from the sources
catdoc through 0.95 contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the MULRK record handler of process_item() in src/xlsparse.c that allows attackers to read past the static rec buffer via a crafted end column. Attackers can supply a crafted .xls workbook or BIFF stream with a large endcol to xls2csv to disclose adjacent process memory as CSV cells or crash the process.
