Short explanation

Text::CSV_XS for Perl before version 1.65 allows quadratic CPU use by copying the unparsed remainder per record of CR-only input in getline [S0].

Why does it matter?

Processing data with classic Mac line endings can spike CPU consumption and degrade application performance [S0].

What should be done?

  • Update Text::CSV_XS to version 1.65 or later [S0].
  • Review line ending configurations [S0].
  • Follow the vendor advisory for patching details [S0].
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Text::CSV_XS 1.65 öncesi sürümleri, getline fonksiyonunda CR tabanlı girdiler için kuadratik CPU kullanımına izin verir [S0].

Yayınlanan yama bilgileri Text::CSV_XS için çözümün mevcut olduğunu göstermektedir [S0].

Show the technical text from the sources

Text::CSV_XS versions before 1.65 for Perl allow quadratic CPU use by copying the unparsed remainder per record of CR-only input in getline. With eol unset, the default, getline reads with Perl's default line separator, so input with CR-only line endings arrives as one chunk. After each record the parser copies the whole unparsed remainder into a new buffer, which the next call parses and copies again, so the work grows with the square of the input size. A reader with default options that is sent CSV with classic Mac line endings spends seconds of CPU time on a megabyte of input.
