Short explanation
CVE-2026-110678 is a memory exhaustion vulnerability affecting Cpanel::JSON::XS versions for Perl prior to 4.80. A logic flaw in the incr_parse function allows buffered incremental input to bypass max_size limits, causing uncontrolled buffer growth and process memory exhaustion.
This vulnerability allows streaming data peers to exhaust process memory and crash applications consuming input through incr_parse, leading to denial of service conditions.
What should be done?
- Upgrade Cpanel::JSON::XS to version 4.80 or later
- Follow vendor advisory and patch references
Chain of evidence and sources
Cpanel::JSON::XS sürümleri 4.80 öncesinde, incr_parse içinde max_size değerini aşan bellek tükenmesine izin verir.
Void bağlamındaki çağrılar veya NUL baytı ile başlayan parçalar arabelleğin sınırsız büyümesine yol açar.
Show the technical text from the sources
Cpanel::JSON::XS versions before 4.80 for Perl allow memory exhaustion by buffering incremental input past max_size in incr_parse. The parser appends each chunk to its buffer. In scalar or list context, it compares max_size with how far it has progressed, not with the buffer length. A chunk that starts with a NUL byte stops the parser before it progresses, and a call in void context skips the check, so the buffer grows without limit. A peer streaming data to an incr_parse consumer can exhaust process memory regardless of max_size.
