Short explanation
The wpForo Forum plugin up to version 3.2.2 is vulnerable to arbitrary file deletion due to insufficient file path validation in the theme_delete function.
It allows authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access to delete arbitrary files on the server, potentially leading to remote code execution when critical files are targeted.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisory guidelines for official updates
- Audit secondary usergroups and capabilities
- Apply available plugin updates
Chain of evidence and sources
wpForo Forum eklentisi 3.2.2 ve önceki sürümleri, theme_delete fonksiyonundaki dosya yolu doğrulama eksikliği nedeniyle rastgele dosya silme zafiyeti barındırmaktadır.
Yama durumu resmî kaynaklarda UNKNOWN olarak değerlendirilmiştir.
Show the technical text from the sources
The wpForo Forum plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file deletion due to insufficient file path validation in the theme_delete function in all versions up to, and including, 3.2.2 This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to delete arbitrary files on the server, which can easily lead to remote code execution when the right file is deleted (such as wp-config.php). This exploit chain is reachable only on sites where an administrator has created a custom wpForo secondary usergroup with a blank WordPress role and the 'mth' (Manage Themes) capability; on such sites, an attacker can self-register and claim that group via the unguarded wpforo_secondary_groupids[] POST field, bypassing the role-based group filter and gaining theme-management access as a Subscriber.
