Short explanation

CVE-2026-109518 is a high-severity vulnerability in Debian and Ubuntu derivatives allowing remote code execution via hard link reuse.

Why does it matter?

An on-path attacker can manipulate HTTP traffic to trick clients into installing unverified packages, achieving remote code execution with root privileges.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories
  • Apply package manager updates
  • Protect network traffic integrity
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

CVE-2026-109518, Debian, Ubuntu ve türevlerinde sert bağlantıların yeniden kullanımı nedeniyle root yetkileri ile uzaktan kod yürütmeye yol açar.

Açıklığın sömürülebilmesi için istemcinin sıfırdan farklı Acquire::Retries ayarına sahip olması ve yönlendirmeleri takip etmesi gerekir.

Show the technical text from the sources

On Debian, Ubuntu, and derivative Linux distributions, an on-path attacker who can manipulate the HTTP traffic (including a malicious mirror or proxy) between an APT client and an archive server triggered by a package install can trick the client into installing an attacker-controlled unverified package and achieve remote code execution with root privileges. The vulnerability is caused by the reuse of hard links and requires the client to follow redirects and retry the download of package files. It requires the client to have a non-zero Acquire::Retries configuration setting; the value 3 is the default starting with Debian 12 (bookworm) and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish), so older releases are unaffected in a default configuration

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
