Short explanation
In Groundhogg versions up to 4.9.3, insufficient path validation in the copy_file function allows authenticated users with Sales Representative or higher privileges to delete arbitrary files on the server; deleting critical files such as wp‑config.php can lead to remote code execution.
Deletion of critical files by an authorized role can result in full site compromise and service outage.
What should be done?
- Restrict the import_contacts capability
- Upgrade the plugin beyond 4.9.3 if a fix is released
- Monitor the vendor advisory and apply patches when available
- Review filesystem permissions to prevent critical file deletion
- Add firewall and monitoring rules to detect abnormal file deletion activity
Chain of evidence and sources
Groundhogg eklentisinin 4.9.3 ve önceki sürümlerinde copy_file fonksiyonundaki yol doğrulama eksikliği, yetkili kullanıcıların rastgele dosya silmesine yol açar.
Silinen kritik dosyalar (ör. wp‑config.php) uzaktan kod yürütmeye ve sistemin tam ele geçirilmesine (root yetkileri) neden olabilir.
Show the technical text from the sources
The Groundhogg — CRM, Newsletters, and Marketing Automation plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file deletion due to insufficient file path validation in the copy_file function in all versions up to, and including, 4.9.3 This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Sales Representative-level access and above, to delete arbitrary files on the server, which can easily lead to remote code execution when the right file is deleted (such as wp-config.php). This is exploitable by any user holding the plugin-defined import_contacts capability, which is granted by default to the plugin's custom Sales Representative role.
