Short explanation
The Anti‑Spam by CleanTalk plugin versions up to 6.89.1 contain a stored XSS via the 'user_email' parameter. When user registration is open and an administrator runs the spam scan, an attacker can execute malicious scripts in the admin’s browser. No confirmed patch; patch status is UNKNOWN.
Executing malicious scripts in an admin session can lead to credential theft and admin‑panel manipulation.
What should be done?
- Apply vendor patch when released
- Restrict or require verification for user registration
- Strengthen input sanitization and output escaping
- Block XSS payloads with a web application firewall
- Monitor admin activity for unexpected script execution
- If no patch is available, consider disabling the plugin
The sources give limited detail on some technical conditions. Review the chain of evidence below before deciding how to act.
Chain of evidence and sources

The Anti-Spam by CleanTalk – Spam Protection Without CAPTCHA plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'user_email' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 6.89.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Successful exploitation requires user registration to be open on the site, and script execution is triggered when an Administrator subsequently runs the plugin's user-spam scan and views the resulting Non-checkable users or Spam users tab — the plugin's own documented workflow.
