Short explanation

Wing FTP Server fails to verify a user's base folder, allowing an authenticated attacker with administrative privileges to escape the base folder and write files. Due to the installation guide recommending sudo, files can be created as root, potentially leading to remote code execution [S0].

Why does it matter?

This critical vulnerability enables attackers to write files on the system and achieve remote code execution under process owner or root privileges [S0].

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisory for patch status updates [S0]
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Wing FTP Server temel klasör doğrulaması yapmadığı için Path Traversal zafiyeti barındırır [S0].

Yönetici yetkilerine sahip bir saldırgan betikler aracılığıyla dizin ekleyerek temel klasörden kaçabilir ve uzaktan kod çalıştırabilir [S0].

Show the technical text from the sources

Wing FTP Server does not verify user's base folder. An attacker with admin privileges can add user directories via scripts, allowing the added directories to escape the base folder. This allows the attacker to write files on the system and can lead to remote code execution with process owner privileges.Critically, since the installation guide mentions running the command with `sudo`, the files are created as “root.” This issue was fixed in version 8.2.6.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
