Short explanation

The WP User Avatar / ProfilePress plugin up to version 4.17.5 allows authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary shortcodes via comment content. The vulnerability stems from insufficient buffer sanitization and improper handling of shortcodes.

Why does it matter?

Authenticated users can trigger capability-gated or data-returning shortcodes and inject raw HTML into publicly viewable pages.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories
  • Verify current version status
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

WP User Avatar / ProfilePress eklentisinin 4.17.5 ve önceki sürümleri rastgele kısa kod çalıştırma zafiyetine açıktır.

Zafiyet, Subscriber düzeyindeki saldırganların yorum içeriği üzerinden sunucu tarafında kısa kod çalıştırmasına izin verir.

Show the technical text from the sources

The WP User Avatar / ProfilePress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Arbitrary Shortcode Execution in versions up to, and including, 4.17.5. This is due to the get_user_profile_structure() function assembling the front-end profile buffer — which includes raw comment excerpts inlined by author_comment_query() — and passing the entire buffer to do_shortcode() after only a narrow neutralization pass (ppress_neutralize_buffer_shortcodes) that blocks pp-custom-html and bracket fragments containing HTML delimiters but leaves any other well-formed shortcode intact. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary shortcodes (from any active plugin or theme) with attacker-chosen attributes by posting a comment whose body contains the shortcode markup; the shortcode is then executed server-side when any visitor loads the target's front-end profile Comments tab, letting the attacker reach capability-gated or data-returning shortcodes and inject raw HTML markup into a publicly viewable page.

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
