Short explanation
The Slim SEO plugin up to version 4.11.1 allows authenticated users to execute arbitrary shortcodes via the Biographical Info user meta field. The vulnerability stems from a lack of proper input validation.
Attackers with subscriber-level access can abuse the do_shortcode function to execute arbitrary shortcodes, introducing confidentiality and integrity risks.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories and updates
- Audit user roles and permissions
Chain of evidence and sources
Slim SEO 4.11.1 ve önceki sürümleri, Biographical Info alanı üzerinden rastgele kısa kod çalıştırılmasına karşı savunmasızdır.
Açık, do_shortcode çalıştırılmadan önce değerlerin uygun şekilde doğrulanmamasından kaynaklanmaktadır.
Show the technical text from the sources
The The Slim SEO – AI SEO Plugin, Lightweight, Fast & Automated plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary shortcode execution in all versions up to, and including, 4.11.1 This is due to the software allowing users to execute an action that does not properly validate a value before running do_shortcode. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to execute arbitrary shortcodes. A Subscriber-level user need only save the shortcode payload to their own Biographical Info field via the REST API or wp-admin profile page; the shortcode then executes on any unauthenticated front-end request that resolves that author's description, such as requests using the ?author= query parameter when auto_redirection is disabled.
