cpp-httplib Cross-Origin Redirect Cookie Leak

Short explanation

Prior to version 0.51.0, cpp-httplib fails to strip Cookie headers during cross-origin redirects, allowing sensitive cookies to leak to unintended parties [S0].

Why does it matter?

Attackers can control redirect responses or leverage a network position to capture session cookies intended for the original origin [S0].

What should be done?

  • Update cpp-httplib to version 0.51.0 or later [S0]
  • Review redirect handling and header stripping mechanisms [S0]
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

cpp-httplib kütüphanesinin 0.51.0 öncesi sürümlerinde, çapraz yönlendirme sırasında Cookie başlıkları sızmaktadır [S0].

Saldırganlar yönlendirme yanıtını kontrol ederek veya şifrelenmemiş ağ konumlarından oturum çerezlerini alabilir [S0].

Show the technical text from the sources

cpp-httplib is a C++ header-only HTTP/HTTPS library. Prior to 0.51.0, create_redirect_client() removes Host, Proxy-Authorization, and Authorization headers when following a cross-origin 301, 302, 307, or 308 redirect but leaves Cookie headers attached. detail::redirect() copies the request for those redirect codes, so cookies supplied directly or through default_headers_ are sent to the redirect target. An attacker who controls a redirect response, or a network position for a non-HTTPS origin, can receive session cookies intended for the original origin. A 303 redirect is not affected because that path clears all request headers. This issue is fixed in version 0.51.0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
