Short explanation

The NewStatPress plugin versions up to 1.4.5 suffer a stored Cross‑Site Scripting (XSS) flaw due to insufficient sanitization of the QUERY_STRING/REQUEST_URI parameter. Unauthenticated attackers can inject malicious URLs that appear in the Top Pages shortcode, causing scripts to run in visitors’ browsers (S0).

Why does it matter?

The flaw enables attackers to execute arbitrary code in the browsers of site visitors, leading to session hijacking, data theft, or page defacement (S0).

What should be done?

  • Do not update the plugin until an official fix is released
  • Monitor the vendor advisory and apply the patch when available
  • Remove the Top Pages shortcode from publicly accessible pages
  • Deploy a WAF that enforces input sanitization and output escaping
  • Enable security headers such as CSP and X‑Content‑Type‑Options
Note on uncertainty

The sources give limited detail on some technical conditions. Review the chain of evidence below before deciding how to act.

Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

The NewStatPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'QUERY_STRING / REQUEST_URI' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.4.5 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires that an administrator has placed the [NewStatPress type="Top Pages"] shortcode on a publicly viewable page, and that the attacker's crafted URL accumulates enough hits to appear in the top-N ranking.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
